Why:              In recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week, we are encouraging the public to put away distractions                                 and slow down  when driving through work zones.

Please join Alabama AGC, Mobile Section’s Young Constructors’ Forum (YCF)  and the Mobile and Baldwin County Road Builders Associations on  Monday, April 9th at 10:30 A.M. at ALDOT’s Mobile office as we show our support for the importance of slowing down , eliminating distractions, and observing all signage and watching for roadway workers, when driving through highway work zones.  ALDOT Director John Cooper and Regional Director Vince Calametti will be on hand for this event.  We want to show the public our commitment to safety by having as many workers as possible show up for this event WEARING SAFETY VESTS.  Please email us to let us know you will join us  staff@agcmobile.org

Each year the Alabama Struck By Alliance, which is made up of over 15 organizations from around the state who share information and conduct activities to promote safe travel in and around work zones,  participate in the National Work Zone Awareness  campaign.  As part of this year’s campaign, Lamar Advertising has designed and donated billboards to be placed along highways around the state.    This year, these billboards will feature the photo of one of our own members.

Marshall Walton, son of Johnny & Kathy Walton
was killed in a highway Work Zone when struck by a vehicle on February 13, 2015.      Marshall was only 25 years old.

Mobile Section AlabamaAGC Young Constructors’ members were instrumental in reaching out to the family and promoting this year’s awareness campaign in Marshall’s honor.  It was an extremely emotional and difficult decision by the Walton family to include a photo of their son on this billboard; however, Johnny and Kathy wanted to help bring awareness to the public that DISTRACTED DRIVING CAN CHANGE LIVES FOREVER.
They also hope that someone else’s child or loved one can be spared  if drivers would slow down and pay attention.

Nationwide, companies are asking their employees to WEAR ORANGE TO WORK
on Wednesday, April 11th
in honor of those who have lost their lives in Work Zones.
We are asking you to do the same.
The RSA tower in Mobile will be lit up in Orange Wednesday evening as part of this awareness.

If you can’t join us on April 9th at 10:30 for the Press Conference/Stand Down,
please host a Safety Stand Down, Tool Box Talk, or Safety Meeting anytime during the week to make your employees aware of the importance of driving safely and undistracted through work zones.

Each year we help track the number of employees from Alabama and NWFL
who participate in this national event, please download and fill out the attached registration form then either fax or email a scanned copy to the AGC office:  staff@agcmobile.org.
