The graduates of AIDT’s Maritime Training Center structural welding and structural fitting programs are eager to begin a career utilizing their new skills. All AIDT students begin their training with the NCCER core curriculum (basic safety, intro to power tools, hand tools, construction math, construction drawings, etc.) and continue with NCCER modules specific to their craft. Welding students learn welding theory and have hands-on experience in SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding processes. The fitters concentrate on blue print reading, precision measurement (standard and metric system), oxy-fuel cutting, layout, grinding, burning, and tacking. All graduates earn their 10-hour OSHA Maritime certificate and must maintain good attendance in order to be recommended for employment. In addition, these students must pass a math, ruler reading, and drug test prior to admittance into the class.
