SAFETY LEADER OF THE YEAR
Each year Mobile Section recognizes one safety professional for his or her outstanding leadership in the field of Safety. This year that honor went to Morris King with Vulcan Materials and his dog Millie, “AGC’s Work Zone Safety Dog”. 2020 was a challenge for all of us, but even while many of us were stuck at home during Covid, Morris King and his dog Millie volunteered their service to help us create a safety campaign with messages to post to our social media sites and on billboards throughout the state. Buzzy Riis, Chairman of the Mobile AGC Safety Committee said that Millie had more credentials than most people he knew, and her schedule was busier than many lawyers – among Millie’s impressive credentials are:
- Certified Complex Therapy Dog working in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit at USA Health Hospital in Mobile, AL.
- Critical Response Therapy Team Dog where she is able to assist first responders and victims of natural or manmade disasters with stress relief and coping with loss.
- Therapy Dog for Saad Hospice and Inpatient Retreat Facility in Mobile
- But for us – most importantly Millie is Mobile Section’s AGC Safety Dog !
Millie and Morris have been an inspiration throughout 2020 helping create this year’s work zone safety campaign and billboard. Riis commented when giving the award, “It’s amazing how one little dog and her owner can have such a big impact on so many”.
